That's one hell of a plan bill...I like it..and have had that with one or two over the years..its rare but can happen.. the problem I have is some trimmers will force one barefoot at all cost..and for some ungodly reason they think farriers rather shoe due to money..I'm all about a barn full of 40 buck Trims ..and if I have a one or two horse stop that's Trims I'm more than happy to pass on the work to a good trimmers that has common sense
Well thanks guys for the positive feedback on my post, but my wife just read it and now I'm in trouble 'cause I invited some Trimmer babe out to lunch.
Being that there's no formal education in the US I don't understand the idea of giving someone credentials for attending a clinic. To me, it gives the perception that you can learn to shoe out of a book.
I don't think you've put much effort into understanding any of this stuff. But the AAPF would give you full credit as an expert on the subject just for being here.
When I worked in IT I got credentials for attending clinics . . . if I could pass the test they gave at the end of the clinic.
I can say from first hand experience that Denise fits that bill. She is always welcome to the passenger seat in my truck and I'll even let her borrow a pair of my C&M's so she can get that cow off her back.
After getting a formal education here and meeting the standards here, I got to agree with you. I just wish I'd had this chance at the beginning of my career than in the last half of it. After being involved in the education proccess here I can only say that there are a lot of pluses to it.
I follow ya now ..and yes your correct I have put very little effort in understanding the inner workings of any org..just always seem a ton of baggage with sifting thru what you hear and read.. if you read any orgs mission statements they make things sound very good until you ask around.... Btw anyone who gives a test at the end of a ce class and have anything other than pass or fail I have always heard very foolish ..in fact they advise you not to have any sort of test and deff do not attach a score to any test that involve ce ... If you have ever owned a business that involved ce and you test for it...it opens you up for a lawsuit if something goes wrong ...
..... I one time I was dead set for no formal education in the US due to government and felt that way for a long time... But now I feel we do need a formal education in our field ...I still don't like the gov having hands in anything but I agree with the above statement..
I'm definitely an advocate of a formal apprenticeship program which would include only accredited master farriers being allowed to have apprentices. If Farriers want to hire helpers, they can't hire anyone who hasn't served an apprenticeship.
I wonder if prometric will defend you in a court of law.. best example I can give that was give to me... Deputy and police do many ce over the years.. years ago radar detector used tuneing forks to calabrate.. they have a class on this you fail the part about calabrating the device..you still pass the test ...down the line someone challenging a fine or ticket...lawyer gets his hands on that test and see where you don't know how to tune the device.. and can prove you don't know how to tune it... While working on a job site of say base pro shops ..a worker who hold a lic in operation of a 90 foot boom lift ... Part of this test has a section on roll overs and working and uneven ground and he fails that part of the test ..still gets a passing grade ..he just happens to roll this mother of the side of the ridge and ruins a 100k pc of machine and does 10 k damage.. the rent lift company holds the test not bass pro..not the company that the guy worked for.. the lift company wants its money and insurance don't wanna give it ..and tell the lift company you get your insurance co to pay the bills not us or bass pro insurance.. lawyer says I have the test where the lift operator fail that section of the test and lift co passed him anyway.. wanna guess who paid up... On a side note from what I seen after any test give at a police dept all test scores are shred and your give pass or fail ..
Smitty are apprentice over there looked at like a student.. in other words do they pay tuition .. I guess what I'm asking is are they like a college student as we have here... How do they decide who can have a chance to work in farrier field ..or is it like here in the states where a guy or gal can say I wanna go to school to be a nurse or vet ...or do you have to know someone to get you with a master..
In our college there is only room for 8 a year you have to have a master to train with you get paid by the college when your in college thats 40 weeks in the 4 years when your with your master he pays you
Why should they? If you are a pilot or a boat captain, the minimum standards on each part of the test are established by the FAA or the USCG. Prometric test scores are not destroyed. If a lift company allows an operator to be certified despite failing the rollover portion of a test, then they deserve to be sued. If they destroy the test score documents, then the test pass/fail has NO PROOF that the candidate actually took a test. Imagine how much fun a lawyer could have with that one - Oh, you can't produce your test scores, so how do we know you actually took the test?
