    Just talked to Abner; few minutes ago; he is great; a lot of interest after the Danny Ward clinic!!!!!

    2nd Saturday in January, 2013............hang out to hammer-in shoes. better for his schedule.

    He got approval from the church last year.

    Rather than using BBQ bottles, he installed a propane filling station. So most of us locals buy our propane from Abner now. Better price than anywhere else and he makes a little on the deal as well - everybody wins!

    I don't think he lights up to coal forge much anymore except for hammer-ins. I'll pass along your regards.

    I showed Chris Bunting your Danish Hind shoe. He thought the heel caulks were funky until I explained that they were a requirement for your qualification exam.

    Not really. Strange, but true - Mikel really did have to make the caulks exactly that way to pass his danish farrier qualification.

    Chris, that is the traditional Danish hind calk shoe and it was required for certification. I thought it w strange myself, but what ever it took to get mt paper!

    The vet school in Copenhagen has a museum. In the museum are some of these that vets had to make as part of their graduation exams. I'm not sure when this requirement was dropped, but at one time vets here had to learn to make shoes.

    Those heels must have "fit the bill" at some point in Denmark. Maybe logging or sleighing? I'm surprised the governing body didn't also require pieces of carbide/tool steel to be driven into the caulks for added traction/wearability.

    Couldn't say, but I was told the "S" style calk was syronger and lasted longer. When it came to the exam, well you know the deal - ours is not to question why just do it.

    No, but they did give me a little extra time in the written part because I to translate a lot with the dictionary I brought. The oral I was told needed to all be done in Danish.
