    I was taught to do them closer to the crease to allow the foot to slide a little before the traction set in. But I usually go with halfway between the crease and heel. Middle of the road. I think right at the heel would cause more discomfort up the limb, versus nearer to the crease, because the stud would come in contact sooner.
