    Thats really interesting. So he turned the section back on itself for the frog plate, then turned at 90 degrees to marry up with the medial branch. How did he mark the amount to turn for the frog plate and cut across in the straight? Did he have a method for calculating the amount of steel required when measuring a hoof?

    The shoe is useful for horses that slice a heel bulb off as it floats the affected area

    I have never been able to understand why one would take away the protection from ground forces like that? As long as the insulted area isnt making contact with the shoe, I would think the shoe then would be protecting the area? Unlevel surfaces or rocks and such would be able to make contact with the damaged area..but ya did say it was an exercise...:)

    I have made G bars before, just for an exercise. I have never applied one, butI would not consider this shoe for a horse that was going to be turned out.

    Its a black smithing excersise. Iritating to have to make something that has no reel use but that is the hoop to jump through.
