Just chaps and the gloves with blue grip dots (and yeah, before you ask about me being barefoot when I trim, I wear regular workboots.)

Wow Travis, we agree on something!

    Hi David,
Thanks for the explanation. I will not be patenting it, it is purely for me to gain a good grade in my entrepreneurship class. I gather from your name that your Irish and I totally agree with you about its use here in Ireland, but thought it might be a good idea for trainee farriers.

....I don't think we are that far apart on our views... Also I got you figured out... 999 blogger sites and you are always on farrier sites ..I seen a pic of you turn up at a farrier clinic ..in fact I think you was nailing one on..with that said I truly think you have a secret desire to become a full blown farrier... Just do do it ..go to school and then app with a farrier.. hell be a full well rounded hoof worker...nothing wrong with that..

    Travis,
I am probably old enough to be your momma--just a little over the hill to be just now starting to shoe, don't you think? Meantime, till I retire from trimming, I'll continue to provide names/numbers of competent shoers for clients who really need to have their horses shod. And I'll keep looking at farrier sites, go to farrier clinics or other educational venues, so I can try to understand the concept of "competent shoeing" and hopefully be able to recognize it when I see it.

    Travis,

I've met Denise. She's not that old. Certainly not old enough to be your Momma. :)

I'm thinking she could be a good shoer if she had a mind to.

Me to rick..when someone is that intrested in this stuff like she is they have a passion for it..she's been on these sites for years so its in her ... Sorry I'm not buying the age thing..if you can trim and stay bent over for that then by god you can shoe...the biggest jump is if someone can bend and has horse handling skills...she's got the hard stuff done...she has a ton of understanding of the limb and its funtion ....she is so far ahead of most that are starting out that some one on one with a farrier she be made in a good hand in no time..

I don't see the problem here. I've known Denise for years and she's 'all that' that's been said here about her. She doesn't want to fabricate and apply shoes and refers clients to farriers. Sounds fair to me. And having seen her work, I say with confidence that her trim work is better than many farrier's and other hoof care provider's work.

And, Travis, that photo of Denise nailing on a shoe was a 'gag' photo. I know this because I was there and was one of the conspirators who put her up to posing for that photo. I'm told that when she got home, she had to go to confession and seek absolution from the deities of trimming for barefoot. It is reported that she had to do 30 days of penitence, wash her hands with a soul(sic) cleansing solution and sing Ave Maria three times a day. :)

Yeah, but think of all the fun she's missing! And then there's that penance thing.:)

Rick b.. she has a passion in secret to shoe ..I'm telling her she can do it..she's not to old..she's way ahead of most starting out..I think she has a small dream and she is able to reach that dream..she's saying her age would make it impossible ..I think its very much in her grasp..I think she would make a good farrier ..you don't think she would..

I think Denise would do well with the Iron phase of the art. I would sure like to see the video of the "discussions" as she apprentices with crew members from the boards here.

When the Union finally takes over the whole trade, they could make helmets mandatory.
    Happy Thanksgiving George, and all.

I do wear an eventing chest protector in case the horse kicks and layer over it this bite suit as horses have been known to bite people. I recomend this "tactical" bite suit as it is not as noticeable as non-tactical ones.

I got a tactical bite suit - I tell my customers if their horse bites me the total bill will be double price. This is something people understand.

It's funny; I never questioned the use of a "brain bucket" when I've been gate training Qtr horses, breezing TB colts, riding motorcycle, caving and on an industrial site but farrier work ? Really? Just seems wrong...

I don't think you can be too careful.
You can see me in full shoeing gear in my avatar.
