I do not understand,Eric. And the translator gets me a crazy translation. What line?

Ahhhh !! LOL..the daugther of my wife helps me to understand.
Eric,I know I can't forge well, but here in Spain, the level is much worse. We say ;The blind in one eye is the king in the country of the blind in two eyes.
I use your rocker bar in my power point about bananas, but I say: "Courtesy of my good friend Eric Russel, master farrier in USA"

I would prefer straightening a shoe and forging it back into a straight piece of barstock so you can at least work on heels also.

"Each master has his book",say the song. In the Army,we can't use new barstock because it costs money. Only old shoes, more cheap.

I've never been into reworking old shoes like that. When I was starting out, every clinic I went to, the clinician always gave one piece of stock and turned it, straightened it out, bumped it, drew it, turned it some more........

LOL, the gas will cost more than the bar stock. You don't have to practice on 5/16, which is about the most expensive. 1/4 and 3/8 is cheaper.

Find a welding business they are a lot cheaper. I give 83 cents a foot for 3/8x1 from a local metal shop, it's a $1.95 at the local farrier supply house.

If your really cheap, you can always use rebar for practice. This was the shoe that was picked for a contest I was in Saturday. IMG_20130113_195904.jpg

We can't get 5/16 here at all, so it's 3/8. 3/8x3/4 is $1.10, 3/8x1 is $1.04, and I found the place by chance. Don't know anything about the place other than I call a couple days ahead of time and make sure they'll have what I need, but they carry a bunch of steel and their recycle joint is across the road.

Using old shoes isn't much of an option because I don't get enough business where there's many I can pull off.

5/16 is not dimensional steel most don't carry it but can get it, usually a minimum order though.
